- Process Water Treatment System
We are providing engineering, procurement, construction and startup/commissioning services for the addition of a process water treatment system and the redirection of wastewater.
The system will treat the Unit 1, 2, 3 and 4 inert fines, and synmat gypsum sump filtrate streams. Water from the system will meet current permit requirements and the Environmental Protection Agency's Effluent Limitation Guidelines limits and will be discharged to a new preliminary process water pond. The system is installed with two trains both capable of treating 1,000 gallons per minute. Both trains are tank-based treatment systems consisting of equalization tanks, reaction tanks, clarifiers, gravity filters and effluent tanks. Chemical feed systems are provided for this process, and effluent pumps are provided to transfer treated effluent. Sludge pumps are used to remove sludge from clarifiers and transfer to a storage tank. Several filter presses are supplied for dewatering.
We are rerouting existing water streams to a new knockout box, including the following:
- Plant sump discharges
- Plant demineralizer discharges
- Plant auxiliary sump discharges
- Ash tunnel sump discharges
- Coal yard settling basin sump discharges
- Plant cooling tower blowdowns
To allow for temporary storage of absorber slurry from any absorber vessel during unit outages, we are installing a new 1,350,000-gallon wet flue gas desulphurization (WFGD) storage tank with side-entry agitators at the Ghent facility. This tank will be flakeglass-lined carbon steel, and associated piping is fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) to allow for the storage and transport of the high solids, high chloride absorber slurry. We also installed transfer pumps and hydrocyclone to process slurry underflow to the gypsum processing plant and overflow to the new gypsum reclaim tanks.
We are installing a new gypsum reclaim water system to collect filtrate with two 700,000-gallon agitated tanks and transfer pumps.
