- Regional Solid Waste Management Plans
McLeod County, Minn., hosts a large regional landfill. For the past two decades, Burns & McDonnell has assisted with several solid waste management plans. The first was developed in 1993 and updated multiple times, most recently in 2013.
The McLeod County Solid Waste Management Department is responsible for managing a variety of programs, including the household hazardous waste facility and mobile collections, curbside recycling, drop-box and township shed recycling locations, public education on solid waste abatement topics, solid waste licensing and permitting, solid waste ordinance coordination and enforcement, landfill surcharges, problem material management (fluorescent bulbs, tires, appliances, electronics, empty pesticide containers, etc.), yard waste, and source reduction. The department works with the Solid Waste Advisory Committee to provide recommendations on solid waste issues to the county board for consideration and adoption.
