Burns & McDonnell is designing the replacement of existing steam absorption chillers and associated chilled water and condenser water pumps and piping in three buildings on the Quincy Veterans Home campus. Equipment in Shapers Hospital, a 35,716-square-foot, one-story building constructed in 1963, Elmore Infirmary a 34,126-square-foot, two-story building constructed in 1963, and Kent Infirmary a 58,850-square-foot, three-story building constructed in 1972. The existing equipment in the three buildings will be replaced with new 380-ton steam absorption chillers be sited in the basement of the Physical Therapy Building.
Included are new condenser water and chilled water pumps, motors, expansion tank, air separator, steam cabinet unit heater, 552-ton, 2-cell cooling towers, new chilled water valve pit, all piping and associated connections, new 4-inch high-pressure steam main with pressure-reducing station in an existing steam tunnel.
Design began in 2007 with construction expected to start in late 2008.
