- Rim Rock Wind Project
Burns & McDonnell performed a due diligence evaluation of the proposed Rim Rock Wind Project, a nominal 189-MW wind farm under construction in Glacier and Toole counties in Montana. The purpose of the study was to provide a detailed review of the key technical and commercial features to San Diego Gas & Electric Co., which was considering an equity investment.
The project, which was under construction at the time of Burns & McDonnell's evaluation, featured 126 Acciona AW-77/1500 wind turbine generators, two collector substations, nine power collection circuits, one operations and maintenance building, and two generation tie-lines connecting the collector substations to the regional electric transmission grid. Burns & McDonnell completed a review of project infrastructure, the proposed wind turbine technology, the project's key contracts and agreements, wind energy production estimates for the site, and the proposed interconnection to the Montana-Alberta Tie-Line Project.

San Diego Gas & Electric is a regulated public utility based in San Diego. Burns & McDonnell provided professional engineering and consulting services in the evaluation and acquisition of a wind energy facility being offered for sale by NaturEner Rim Rock Wind Energy LLC. Once acquired, the project would represent the largest wind facility in SDG&E's portfolio.
Burns & McDonnell's services on the project included a facility assessment, construction status review, turbine technology evaluation, balance-of-plant design reviews, wind energy production evaluation, and a review of the project's key contracts and agreements. The evaluation ultimately led to the successful acquisition of the project by San Diego Gas & Electric.
