- Riverside Power Station GSU Replacement & Generator Relay Upgrade
AEP required detailed design and engineering services for upgrades and replacements for Riverside Unit 1 and Power Station Unit 1 from the mid-1980s. We used 3D scanning to precisely locate the new generator step-up transformer (GSU). The electrical equipment plan was key because the existing isolated phase bus connections and rigid solid bus connections were reused.
We re-engineered the 480-V auxiliary power system to the GSU and the main auxiliary transformer and reconfigured the control system to include alarms from the new transformer in the control room annunciator. To design the generator protective relay upgrade, we updated three-line diagrams, oneline diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams. We also created detailed protective relay calculation files and relay settings for the newly installed Schweitzer 300G, Beckwith M-3425A and Schweitzer 487E relays.
