In support of the Combat Aviation Brigade, Burns & McDonnell served as integrated design-build contractor for a new 4,500-foot runway at Fort Riley. Runway lighting includes an omnidirectional approach system. The project scope also included two 12,000-square-yard helicopter parking aprons with tie-downs and grounding, taxiways, compass swing base and fueling pads. This project was recognized with a 2008 Excellence in Paving Award from the Missouri/Kansas Chapter of the American Concrete Pavement Association/Kansas Department of Transportation and a 2009 DBIA Merit Award for Best Project, Design-Build, Public Sector over $25 million.
