- Salt Mine Cavern Evaluations & Remediation
We are helping assess the geological conditions at the abandoned North American Salt solution-mined well field.
The project includes both review of historical salt mining records for the well field and several phases of intrusive investigation to determine the conditions of the 120 caverns in the field.
The salt bed occupied by the caverns occurs at a depth range from 400 feet below ground at the top to more than 700 feet at the base. The caverns, solution-mined in the early 20th century, range from tens of feet to several hundred feet in diameter and are up to 300 feet tall within the salt bed.
