- Security System Design
Burns & McDonnell completed planning, design and construction phase services for the addition of physical and electronic security improvements at various water and wastewater facilities for a Midwestern city with a population of nearly 400,000. The project included review of the results of an earlier vulnerability assessment and conceptual planning, prioritization and cost estimating for recommended improvements.
The results of the initial planning separated the facilities into three priority tiers based on risk and importance to overall system operations. Based on the plan, we created bid documents for security additions in Tier I and a portion of Tier II facilities. Facilities included the water treatment plant, water distribution pump stations, sewage treatment plant and the sewer maintenance facility. Security improvement measures included site access control gates, fencing, interior and exterior access control for personnel doors, perimeter and door intrusion alarms, video monitoring and recording, exterior lighting, communications and networking, and integration with existing SCADA systems and other city networks.
