- Security System Upgrades
Burns & McDonnell is overseeing the implementation of physical and electronic security upgrades at 14 sites for a utility on the East Coast. Security improvements are to be implemented at a combination of electrical utility substations and natural gas distribution sites. Site upgrades include perimeter fencing replacement, vehicular gates, installation of electronic access control systems, video surveillance systems, and intrusion detection systems. We assisted security integrators and electrical contractors with researching solutions for site-specific installation issues. These solutions ranged from cable installation, sensor type and security device installation practices and placement.
We coordinated the installation, testing and commissioning of the sites with the corporate security standards and executed precommissioning testing with the integrator. We also worked with the client's corporate security to ensure proper monitoring of the security systems at the security operations center. The team assisted with the physical security walk-downs as well as with the final electronic security commissioning. We provided punch-lists items as identified for both electrical contractors and security integrators. The overall project objective was to provide consistency in installation and implementation of security systems for the planned 14 sites.
