- Seminole Generating Station Excitation System Upgrades
Seminole required assistance upgrading Units 1 and 2, its coal-fired generating units (700 MW each) built in the early 1980s. We performed detailed design for replacement of the static excitation system automatic voltage regulator (AVR), power rectifier bridges, and DC field overvoltage and protection circuitry with an Emerson digital excitation system.
As part of the upgrade, the unit automatic synchronizer (a Beckwith M-0188 and M-0190) was replaced with a new SEL-700G. Detailed design documents included one-lines, three-lines, DC schematics, cable schedules and electrical plan drawings. We also created detailed protective relay calculations files and relay settings for the newly installed automatic synchronizer and excitation transformer protective relay. We provided equipment procurement and construction contract support during the detailed design phases, and during unit outages, we supported Seminole during demolition and installation.
