- Soil/Groundwater Investigation & Remediation
Our team is investigating and remediating chloride-impacted soil and groundwater at the abandoned North American Salt solution-mined well field. The salt bed occurs at a depth range from 400 feet below ground at the top to more than 700 feet at the base.
While the mine was operating, brine was extracted from 120 brine wells. Several salt caverns have collapsed due to long-term deterioration of the shale bedrock roofs over the old caverns. The site is being investigated under a consent decree with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).
