- Solids Dewatering Facility Upgrade
Burns & McDonnell planned, designed and provided design-build services for a solids dewatering facility and improvements to the headworks for the Riverton Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project was completed using design-build project delivery (i.e., guaranteed maximum price with shared savings) and was the first wastewater design-build project in Wyoming.
The project included centrifuge prepurchase, design of all supporting dewatering facilities and comprehensive headworks equipment replacement. The new mechanical dewatering system replaced the existing sludge drying beds and significantly enhanced the city's composting operation. The solids dewatering facility was designed to facilitate large implement (e.g., front-end loader, Brown Bear, etc.) parking. Headworks equipment replaced included the mechanically cleaned bar screen, addition of a screening washer/compactor, replacement of the grit classifer, and a new belt conveyor for handling of grit and screenings. A screenings washer/classifier was added to decrease the volume, moisture content and organic content of the screenings, which will make the screenings easier to handle and reduce odor.
