- South Terminal Complex
Burns & McDonnell is providing planning and design services for the airside civil development of Phase I of the South Terminal Complex at Orlando International Airport. The project involves coordination with the primary consultant and local consultants as well as incorporation of client and tenant requirements into the design of the 12-gate facility.
Planning items include: review of the airport authority’s ultimate conceptual layout, which features 120 gates; initial shadow studies to determine maximum terminal elevations; review and comment on existing aircraft layout plan; establishment of the terminal building’s finished floor elevation; earthwork calculation estimate; and general coordination of aircraft circulation to comply with FAA requirements.
A planning stage study summarized the options and recommendations for grading and draining the system and for aircraft support systems such as potable water, 400-hertz power, pre-conditioned air, triturator and passenger boarding bridges. Design items include aircraft layout, aircraft support and airside civil items such as safety plans, phasing plans, grading, drainage, pavement design, apron layout, taxiway layout, shadow studies, apron utilities, hydrant fueling and pavement marking.
