Joint Ground Support Equipment & Aircraft Maintenance Facility
Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB), Fort Worth, Texas
Burns & McDonnell is providing design-build services for a Joint Ground Support Equipment & Aircraft Maintenance Facility.
Combined Reserve Training Center, Base Library
NAS JRB, Fort Worth, Texas
Burns & McDonnell provided comprehensive design and construction services for this 27,600-square-foot facility. When the facility opens, just one year after the project kick-off meeting, it will combine aviation and surface reserve training and drilling operation as well as the base library into one location. To properly serve these disparate functions, Burns & McDonnell created a building with two entrances, one on the first floor to serve the Base Library and one at mid-level to serve the classrooms on the first floor and reserve unit spaces on the second. The facility is a two-story, steel framed structure with steel wall framing and brick veneer.
The project was designed to straddle an existing storm drainage structure that serves a large portion of the base as well as a pedestrian bridge to connect this facility to an existing building housing reserve training functions. Also, several important design elements that enhance the design theme, provide sustainable benefits and add to the life of the building are included such as: An energy-efficient building envelope, a roofing system that meets Energy Star label requirements, energy-efficient windows with low-e insulated glazing that provide outdoor views and natural lighting into workspaces, force-protected glazing in new construction, and durable, low-maintenance interior wall, floor and ceiling finishes.
The facility will house the following functions:
- Computer labs
- Large classrooms with retractable partitions.
- Reserve unit offices
- Administrative and conference areas
- Library stack area, reading areas and library staff areas
