Burns & McDonnell was selected as the Phase I design-build integrator for the Smart Power Infrastructure Demonstration for Energy Reliability and Security (SPIDERS) project at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam. SPIDERS is a Department of Defense (DOD)/Department of Energy (DOE)/Department of Homeland Security (DHS) effort to design, build, test and evaluate microgrids at DOD installations. These microgrids improve reliability, efficiency and security of power supplies to critical missions that are otherwise susceptible to threats to the nation's electrical grid. The program is led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) and includes participation by Northern Command (NORTHCOM), Pacific Command (PACOM), Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) and several DOE National Labs.
