- St. Louis Police Forensics Laboratory
Burns & McDonnell provided complete architectural, structural and civil design services for the new St. Louis Police Department Forensic lab. The new three-story forensic lab is next to the existing police building, which was built in the 1940s. Parking for ETV vans and a vehicle processing bay is on the first floor.
The labs and support spaces are on the second and third floors, connected to the existing headquarters building. The lab building contains 40,000 square feet, at a cost of $7.5 million.
The existing forensic lab was in the existing police building and required additional space to operate efficiently and maintain accreditation with the American Society of Crime Lab Directors (ASCLAD). The primary goal was to provide a new lab that will meet the physical criteria for ASCLAD accreditation. Secondary goals for the project were to provide updated facilities, improved/safe working environment, and a more efficient and productive workplace. The lab contains these units:
- Evidence receipt
- Property custody
- Drug chemistry
- Photo lab
