- Substation Sound Studies
Our team collected sound data in and around a substation to establish ambient and operational sound levels of the autotransformers. Sound levels were measured and compared to vendor guarantees to determine whether the units were operating within specification. Noise modeling was completed to analyze off-site impacts to neighboring residents and to determine the expected effectiveness of mitigation options.
Mitigation options capable of attenuating the sound levels to below acceptable levels were provided to the client and presented to the public and the local planning board. Construction feasibility studies were done in a combined effort with design and construction engineers to determine a solution that cost-effectively reduced sound of the substation.
We worked closely with the substation owner throughout the design and construction of a cantilevered wall and measured post-construction sound levels to demonstrate compliance. Significant interaction with the affected town and its acoustical consultant occurred throughout the project. The town’s consultant complimented us on the job performed after compliance demonstration.
