- Vermont Yankee Decommissioning
We are the owner’s engineer, teamed with NorthStar, Orano and Waste Control Specialists, to fully decommission and delicense the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant in Vernon, Vermont. Vermont Yankee is a 620-MWe boiling water reactor nuclear power plant that operated from 1972 to 2014.
This project is the first asset sale nuclear decommissioning project in the country. It is underway and expected to be complete by 2026. This decommissioning approach takes the plant from a long-term SAFESTOR decommissioning plan to an immediate decommissioning activity to safely restore the site decades ahead of the original plans.
Under an asset sale agreement, NorthStar is purchasing all Vermont Yankee assets and liabilities and will perform the decommissioning in conjunction with the team.
We are responsible for owner’s engineering for the decommissioning project, which includes all engineering, modification, configuration management and licensing activities. Analyses, including building structural analyses for deconstruction activities is also included. Our team will assist the owner with any additional project management, schedule management, estimating, regulatory and environmental activities needed for the duration of the project.
