- Water Distribution & Wastewater Master Plans
Burns & McDonnell completed a water distribution master plan and a wastewater master plan simultaneously for the City of Raymore, Mo. A number of efficiencies were realized by combining the master planning efforts, including allowing the city to move its geographic information system (GIS)/information technology (IT) foundation to the next level.
The City of Raymore utilizes data provided through a cooperative effort with Cass County, Mo. The Cass County GIS base data and an AutoCAD water distribution system map were used as the foundations for the development of a geodatabase for the master planning effort. A data conversion/extraction effort was undertaken to convert the out-of-date distribution system map to the geodatabase and digitize all missing data in the distribution system. During the conversion and digitizing process, a set of customer tools were used to allow a user to create the pipe or node feature and at the same time enter the pertinent attribute data. In this way the entire distribution system was updated and placed into the GIS package ArcGIS, currently used within the city.
The data collected during the development of the distribution system will be used to create a MWH Soft H20-Net hydraulic model. The Microsoft Access geodatabase will be linked directly to the model and allow a user to upade information within the model or the GIS and synchronize the changes into the other system.
In addition to the construction of the hydraulic model, the data collected for the distribution system was used to develop a GASG34 evaluation for the water system. Pertinent information such as pipe size, age and length were used within a set of depreciation calculations to develop the current value of the water distribution system.
