- Water Treatment Plant Conceptual Design
Burns & McDonnell developed conceptual design for improvements at Paragould Light, Water & Cable's (PLWC’s) water treatment plant. The objective was to develop the layout for the plant improvements, anticipate impacts on plant utilities and processes, and formulate an opinion of cost.
A Basis of Design Memorandum was prepared for PLWC’s review. A new flocculation/clarification process was selected following screening of candidate processes and visits to municipal water plants having promising processes. An expansion of the filtration system was also planned to improve performance and reliability. A new chemical feed and rapid mix system was identified to serve the new processes. Other changes included addition of a second filter backwash pump, and reconfiguring the booster pump station to give better access for maintenance and improved hydraulic performance.

Preliminary plans were developed to layout the process changes and anticipate space needs. Several utilities and power feeds will have to be relocated before construction. A geotechnical investigation was performed to support structural design concepts for the new facilities. Architectural, mechanical and electrical requirements were defined to determine layout.
An opinion of project cost was developed that enabled PLWC to incorporate the project into its long-term budget planning.
