- Will Rogers Turnpike Pavement Reconstruction
The Will Rogers Turnpike handles average daily traffic of 17,500 with 36 percent truck traffic. Heavy traffic contributed to the deterioration in overlays of asphaltic concrete under previous maintenance projects.
The heavy traffic was one of the challenges Burns & McDonnell faced in the pavement reconstruction as the entrance and exit ramps as well as the turnpike concession areas were required to remain open during the course of construction.
Construction management and resident inspection services were critical elements in this project. The Oklahoma Transportation Authority also required a new quality control/quality assurance specification for asphaltic materials in this project that demanded special attention.
