Joe Podrebarac leads the energy market at Burns & McDonnell, overseeing the firm’s Transmission & Distribution, Power, and Oil, Gas & Chemical groups.

With 25 years of experience in the construction and engineering industry, he has a strong background in executing complex engineer-procure-construct (EPC) projects and guiding multidisciplinary teams. As the firm’s first chief safety officer, Joe helped strengthen Burns & McDonnell’s safety culture, empowering teams to make safer decisions with even stronger project outcomes. He holds a Bachelor of Science in construction science and management from Kansas State University.

What inspired you to pursue your career?

My brother introduced me to the world of industrial construction projects, which sparked my fascination in this field. I was inspired to follow in his footsteps. I also find immense joy in building complex projects.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I am a first-generation American. My parents and brother emigrated from Croatia.

What excites you most when you look at the future of infrastructure?

Our company is continuously growing and evolving in this fast-paced world. Similarly, our clients are also constantly evolving and it’s exciting to be able to help them navigate decisions and succeed in their goals.
