KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Burns & McDonnell has been honored as one of People's 2020 "50 Companies that Care" by Great Place to Work and People magazine. The annual recognition honors the top U.S. companies that have succeeded in business while concurrently demonstrating outstanding respect, care and concern for their employees, communities and the environment throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

“As an employee-owned firm, our steadfast dedication — to our clients, our communities, our partners and one another — is integral, especially in trying times such as these,” says Ray Kowalik, chairman and CEO, Burns & McDonnell. “Regardless of the challenges we face, we must keep safety first while providing the best possible client service we can. Our clients are facing difficult challenges and they are counting on us to help them and the communities we all serve. The critical infrastructure projects we work on are the backbone of our nation and must be ready to function to help keep all our families safe.”

People’s “50 Companies that Care” are recognized for stepping up as leaders during an unprecedented time in modern history. With professionals serving clients and communities around the world, Burns & McDonnell has heightened safety measures, deployed the latest technologies and enhanced communication to keep employee-owners safe, connected and supported.

To bolster support of those on the front lines providing critical resources, the Burns & McDonnell Foundation made a $1.5 million donation to the United Way COVID-19 Community Response and Recovery Fund at the pandemic’s outset in early 2020.

“Best workplaces like Burns & McDonnell are showing up for their employees and communities during this unprecedented time and they’re able to do this because of the strong investments in their cultures leading up to this point,” says Michael C. Bush, CEO, Great Place to Work. “Having a foundation of trust has allowed these businesses to find innovative responses to COVID-19.”

For the fourth consecutive year, People partnered with Great Place to Work to produce the ranking using the analytic firm's extensive database and knowledge of outstanding workplaces around the globe. Rankings are based on surveys representing over 4.8 million employees’ experiences of how their workplaces have made a difference in their lives and in their communities.

Rankings also reflect Great Place to Work's assessment of the generosity of each organization's benefits, philanthropic and community support, with particular focus on activities in response to the pandemic.

The fourth annual list will be featured in the Sept. 14 issue of People, which hits newsstands nationwide Sept. 4.
