KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Across the U.S., eight employee-owners from Burns & McDonnell were named by Engineering News-Record (ENR) regional editions as 2019 Top Young Professionals. The annual regional program honors outstanding young construction and design professionals who are under the age of 40 and represent the industry’s top rising leaders through leadership and community service.
The honorees from Burns & McDonnell are:
Karen Bray, ENR Midwest
Since joining Burns & McDonnell in 2002, Karen Bray has earned increasing opportunities and responsibilities, including a promotion to principal, a designation only 3 percent of employee-owners at Burns & McDonnell can achieve. In her current role, Karen serves as business development manager in the firm’s Oil, Gas & Chemical Group, one of the firm’s largest and most complex markets. Karen’s clients are among the largest energy companies around — processing, treating, reacting, refining and delivering chemical, petroleum, gas and other critical energy products — and it is critical to conduct their business safely, efficiently and productively.
Patrick Castelvecchi, ENR MidAtlantic
Patrick Castelvecchi serves as a mechanical engineer and design corps manager in the Roanoke office for Burns & McDonnell. He focuses largely on mission-critical projects and leads a team of more than 60 technical professionals. One recent project includes design for a new P-913 Communications Center at Naval Station Norfolk, the world’s largest naval base. The 163,525-square-foot structure combines communications operations from eight old, antiquated buildings into a single structure that will be an efficient, open and adaptable facility capable of adjusting to ever-changing work requirements.
Cary Gallaway, ENR Texas & Louisiana
As the substation department manager for the Transmission & Distribution Group at Burns & McDonnell in Houston, Cary Gallaway oversees a team of electrical engineers, project managers and designers who execute substation design projects. Whether he is developing innovative solutions to provide power to consumers or finding ways to prevent outages during natural disasters, Cary leads his team to execute safe and reliable energy system projects for clients in the power industry.
Justin Grissom, ENR Texas & Louisiana
As section manager with the OnSite Energy & Power Group at Burns & McDonnell in the Dallas-Fort Worth office, Justin Grissom brings more than a decade of diversified experience in management, design and analysis of large district energy and power projects. Through the planning, design and construction of large campus utility systems, Justin and the OnSite Energy & Power Group work to provide universities, airports, military installations, utilities and healthcare facilities nationwide what they need — efficient, reliable and resilient power.
Srinidhi Iyengar, ENR Southwest
As an electrical engineer in the substation department for the firm’s Transmission & Distribution Group in the Phoenix office of Burns & McDonnell, Srinidhi Iyengar is responsible for the protection, design and system studies for solar energy facilities. He plays an integral role in developing sustainable power solutions as he partners with utilities, developers and independent power producers to advance the connection of renewable energy systems.
Aurom Mahobian, ENR Mountain States
As the department manager for the Oil, Gas & Chemical Group for Burns & McDonnell in Denver, Aurom Mahobian leads a team to deliver safe and environmentally sound oil and gas facility and pipeline solutions. From designing oil, gas and chemical processing facilities to implementing storage or distribution solutions, Aurom’s team works to provide engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) services, delivering clients results that include minimized schedules, increased cost control and enhanced design and construction innovation.
Nathan Newman, ENR Southeast
With more than a decade of experience leading design and construction of complex facilities across a multitude of industries, Nathan Newman serves as a project manager, senior structural engineer and the manager of the Global Facilities Group for the Southeast region of Burns & McDonnell. Nathan joined Burns & McDonnell after graduating with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Missouri University of Science & Technology. Since then, he’s led multidisciplinary project teams and managed the design of more than $300 million in projects for some of the nation’s leading agricultural, manufacturing and aerospace businesses. He specializes in composites manufacturing, paint and advanced research facilities, as well as commercial greenhouses.
Brianna Pilkinton, ENR California
As a department manager for Burns & McDonnell in the firm’s San Diego office, Brianna Pilkinton is responsible for the direction and leadership of the firm’s environmental studies team in California. With more than 15 years of experience, she has worked on hundreds of projects and led multidisciplinary teams for a wide variety of public and private infrastructure projects in the energy, utility, development, military and transportation sectors in California and nationwide.
