KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Burns & McDonnell, a 100% employee-owned engineering and construction firm, selected Irvin Bishop Jr. as its chief digital technology officer (CDTO). As CDTO, Bishop leads development and execution of the firm’s digital and technology business strategies, driving innovation and delivering transformative solutions to clients and employee-owners.

Bishop oversees the Enterprise Transformation, Information Technology, Innovation and Project Delivery offices — key teams forming the foundation of the digital ecosystem at Burns & McDonnell. Through this integrated structure, he will guide the convergence of technology, data and business strategy to accelerate the firm’s digital transformation.
“The technology landscape is changing rapidly, and it is more important than ever we stay innovative and agile, embracing technology as a true partner in delivering exceptional projects for our clients,” says Leslie M. Duke, chair and CEO of Burns & McDonnell. “With Irvin’s leadership and our firm’s creativity, skills and commitment, I am excited to see us continue to mobilize our digital capabilities and foster innovation to create meaningful impact for our clients and employee-owners.”
Bishop brings more than 35 years of experience leading technology, marketing and digital transformation initiatives across major global organizations. His passion for technology began early, inspired by a donated computer at the Boys & Girls Club in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, an experience shaping his belief in technology’s power to connect people and drive progress.
“Technology is no longer a cost of business — it is an accelerator of business,” Bishop says. “I’m excited to help Burns & McDonnell leverage digital tools and insights to deliver exceptional results for our clients and empower our employee-owners to achieve even greater impact.”
Over the course of his career, Bishop has advanced digital strategies enhancing performance, strengthen client relationships and deliver measurable business results. He has built and led high-performing teams, championed data-driven insights, and leveraged emerging technologies to improve innovation and efficiency across global markets.
Guided by a philosophy learning is continuous and leadership is about elevating others, Bishop is a national trustee (Southwest Region) for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, giving back to the organization that first sparked his passion for technology and mentorship. He also has been active in initiatives for Habitat for Humanity and STEM mentoring.
