Lean Construction Pioneer John Strickland Joins Burns & McDonnell in the Pacific Northwest

VANCOUVER, Washington — With more than 40 years of construction management experience, John Strickland joins Burns & McDonnell in the Pacific Northwest to lead integrated design-build projects across the U.S.

“From hands-on experience as a carpenter to leading major design-build projects for industrial, manufacturing, commercial and advanced technology clients, John has a deep, holistic understanding of what it takes to make a project successful, from start to finish,” says Mike Fenske, senior vice president and Global Facilities Group general manager at Burns & McDonnell. “John was among the first wave of professionals to develop and implement lean construction principles and has been a driving force in enhancing project delivery methods within the industry. His expansive knowledge of lean construction and focus on integration and flow further strengthens our team and ability to deliver efficient, cost-effective projects for our clients.”

John was a formative leader in developing Incident and Injury-Free Environment safety practices for the construction industry. He has led innovation initiatives and lean system development on more than 20 industrial projects and multi-site programs with values ranging from less than $5 million to more than $1 billion. He has been an active member of the Lean Construction Institute since it was established in 1997 and he’s been involved in major Construction Industry Institute (CII) research projects focused on innovation and fast project execution. The key concepts of Respect for People and Continuous Improvement are deeply embedded in Strickland’s approach to project delivery and the lean construction mindset, as well as within his personal values.
