ATLANTA, Georgia — Burns & McDonnell has earned a national recognition award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) 2026 Engineering Excellence Awards for its work on Georgia Power’s Grid Investment Program.

The awards, presented during the organization’s Engineering Excellence Awards Gala on May 5 in Washington, D.C., honor projects demonstrating exceptional engineering excellence at the national level.

Burns & McDonnell is providing program management services for the multiyear initiative, including permitting and environmental compliance, outage coordination, project development, construction and technology-enabled program delivery.

“Our role as program manager extends beyond traditional engineering to coordinating hundreds of projects across Georgia through an innovative delivery model,” says Nathan Khan, program manager at Burns & McDonnell. “By integrating GIS-driven tools, automated workflows and real-time field tracking, the team improved coordination, accelerated project delivery and helped support more reliable outcomes for Georgia Power customers.”

Georgia Power’s Grid Investment Program is a multibillion-dollar, long-term initiative designed to strengthen and modernize the state’s electric transmission and distribution system. The program focuses on improving reliability, reducing outage frequency and duration, and replacing aging infrastructure across Georgia.
