Our team is supporting BWX Technologies in the design and development of microreactors that can provide thermal and electric power. The BWXT Advanced Nuclear Reactor (BANR) is a modular, factory-fabricated system designed to provide 75 megawatts (thermal) of resilient, carbon-free industrial heat and baseload energy. BANR uses tri-structural isotropic (TRISO) fuel particles enabling a safer reactor architecture and improved operational efficiency.
We are leveraging our experience in the commercial power industry to support BWXT’s microreactor development, and since 2024, we have assisted in the development of the power conversion and balance-of-plant (BOP) systems, designed the reactor building structure, generated the power plant layout, and performed preconstruction planning.
The BANR development marks a significant step in advancing resilient energy solutions for a variety of end users, including mining, manufacturing, data centers, military installations and other microgrid applications.
