PROJECT

U.S. 275 Veterans Memorial Bridge

As a subconsultant to Transystems, our bridge team designed the river piers in the navigation span, truss span and substructure for 17 of the 24 approach spans on the U.S. 275 Veterans Memorial Bridge.

This major Missouri River crossing replaced the existing South Omaha Bridge, a two-span continuous Warren truss that was in poor condition. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but its narrow width disqualified it for restoration.

The new 12-panel, 625-foot Warren truss bridge has a dramatic visual presence and provides a link to the past, when the truss was the only structure type spanning the Missouri River. Features include two 34-foot roadways, 10-foot shoulders, a 6-foot center median, and a 10-foot protected sidewalk/bikeway that connects trail systems in Omaha and Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The work required agency coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard, Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
