KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Tammy Martin has joined Burns & McDonnell as the firm’s business diversity program director. With nearly 24 years of experience in supply chain and supplier management, Martin will work closely with executive leaders and business diversity teams globally throughout the 100% employee-owned engineering, construction and architecture firm to identify, utilize and develop relationships with diverse businesses.

Martin-Tammy

“Our company has cultivated powerful partnerships with diverse business partners to execute successful projects, and I have no doubt Tammy will continue to strengthen those relationships,” says Renita Mollman, chief administrative officer and senior vice president, Burns & McDonnell. “We care about deepening and expanding our work with diverse suppliers because we value bringing innovative ideas to our clients and creating opportunities that build up our business communities.”

Martin will lead collaborative efforts across the firm to maintain and develop partnerships, provide an education platform for small and diverse-owned businesses to meet and exceed client business diversity goals, and lead internal trainings for Burns & McDonnell employee-owners. Her robust resume includes leading strategic supply services and supplier relationship management at one of the nation’s largest utility companies, as well as serving in roles where she developed a deep understanding of procurement, contract negotiations and strategic sourcing. Martin says a previous position as executive director of a chamber of commerce in Indiana first sparked her desire to work with small businesses and connect them to growth opportunities that positively impact the economy.

“Long-term and diverse relationships help everyone win,” Martin says. “Our partnerships diversify our business, bring fresh ideas to our clients, expand the visibility and reach of small businesses, and generate economic growth. I hope to continue the longstanding dedication of Burns & McDonnell to meet supplier diversity objectives and create equitable access to meaningful business opportunities.”

Martin is a Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity from the Institute of Supply Management (ISM). She is also a former member of the Electric Utility Industry Sustainable Supply Chain Alliance and previously served as vice president of the ISM Cooperatives Utilities Board of Directors and vice chair of the Utility Purchasing Management Group.
