Supplier/Business Diversity

Respect, trust and equity form the foundation on which we’ve built our business worldwide. We are committed to creating and fostering partnerships with qualified diverse suppliers, strengthening our projects and making a positive economic impact in the communities where we work.

The business case for building diverse partnerships is clear. Diverse perspectives allow innovative ideas and creative solutions to strengthen our work for clients. Business diversity supports our ability to be agile and nimble, getting straight to important business decisions. We believe that having diverse partners in our supply chain creates a competitive, sustainable environment that enhances the resources available to us in challenging markets.

A Strong Record in Business Diversity

From 2017-2021, $2.2 billion was spent with small/diverse partners. In these past five years, Burns & McDonnell has partnered with more than 2,700 small/diverse partners in 49 states. Our internal divisions and offices collaborate to grow our diverse supplier pipeline, building relationships that create value for our projects and our clients. Our mission is to develop partnerships with all types of diverse businesses — Small, Minority-Owned, Woman-Owned, Woman-Owned Small Business, Disadvantaged (Certified or Self-Certified), HUBZone (Certified by the Small Business Administration), Veteran-Owned, Veteran-Owned Small Business, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, LGBTQ, Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Institutions — to meet or exceed our clients’ diversity goals.

Review our small/diverse business subcontracting policy

We network with organizations across our industries and communities that support business diversity initiatives — those with national membership as well as local diverse chambers of commerce and business associations. Our teams seek opportunities to mentor small businesses that have the potential for big impacts in the industries we serve, and our employee-owners are active in a wide range of youth engagement and STEM outreach initiatives.

Connect With More

There are many stories that demonstrate the value of business diversity and highlight important views that shape our culture and our people. We share some of those stories in our quarterly business diversity e-newsletter, Together By Design.
