KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Burns & McDonnell, a 100% employee-owned engineering, construction and architecture firm, has made a donation at the Founder Circle level to the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Research Institute, to help guide the industry forward. The contribution underscores the firm’s commitment to advancing insights and innovation shaping the future of the engineering and construction industry.

“At Burns & McDonnell, we seek to preserve and advance the communities we serve, live in and care for,” says Paul Fischer, chief operations officer, Burns & McDonnell. “The industries we support — from water and power to transportation, aviation, manufacturing, data centers and environmental initiatives — are the foundation of daily life. By supporting the ACEC Research Institute, we’re investing in the insights and innovation helping shape resilient and thriving communities for generations to come.”

The ACEC Research Institute, an independent nonprofit, delivers research and thought leadership aimed to develop transformative solutions that address the pressing challenges of our time. Its work provides valuable data and analysis that is frequently cited by the media and made available to global financial professionals. The institute also plays a vital role in nurturing the next generation of engineers, awarding more than $678,000 in student scholarships over the past year.

“Burns & McDonnell’s donation illustrates the foresight needed to keep the engineering industry ahead of the curve,” says Steve Lefton, chair of the institute. “Innovation backed by insight is the key to ensuring our profession’s resilience in a rapidly changing world.
