CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Aug. 28, 2017) — With many of the Power industry’s largest and most complex infrastructure upgrades currently underway along the Eastern Seaboard, Burns & McDonnell has expanded its engineering and technical service presence in the Carolinas with a new office in Charlotte, North Carolina. A 100-percent employee-owned firm that is currently ranked No. 1 in the Power industry by Engineering News-Record magazine, Burns & McDonnell has staffed the new location with experienced power professionals from the region to a recently opened office at 400 S. Tryon, Suite 800, and plans to approximately triple the staff over the next 12 to 24 months.

“America has the world’s best and most reliable power infrastructure by a large margin, but our power industry is now facing a huge need for investment,” says Thad Wingo, a Burns & McDonnell project manager who directs operations in the new office. “Burns & McDonnell has worked with many utilities in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern regions for decades but with projects becoming more complex and demands more critical, the time has come for us to establish a permanent presence in the Carolinas.”

On Thursday, Aug. 24, Burns & McDonnell welcomed visitors to the new Charlotte office in an official grand opening unveiling a full repertoire of engineering, construction and technical support services. Services will include engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting solutions for clients from Virginia to Florida covering power, industrial, manufacturing, institutional and commercial sectors.

Burns & McDonnell also currently ranks No. 16 among Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For and has been recognized by more than 20 publications as a best place to work across the country.

“Our business is really a people business so we work hard at attracting and holding on to the most dedicated, knowledgeable and service-oriented people in the industry,” says Burns & McDonnell Vice President Scott Clark, who leads the Onsite Energy group for the firm and is one of the focus areas for the office. “Employee ownership really works. It is the key to attracting and keeping great people.”
