KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Burns & McDonnell, a 100% employee-owned engineering and construction firm, named Rashmi Menon its first chief people officer, reinforcing the firm’s commitment to developing and empowering employee-owners whose experience and dedication drive successful outcomes for clients. Menon will lead the firm’s Community Impact, Events & Programs, Human Resources, Corporate Communications and People Change Management teams.

“We deliver resilient and efficient projects through commitment, trust and innovation — and, most importantly, through our people,” says Leslie M. Duke, chair and CEO of Burns & McDonnell. “Rashmi is an exceptional leader who combines strong business acumen with a deep commitment to developing and empowering others. Throughout her career, she has built high-performing teams and inspired those around her to achieve their highest potential.”
Menon brings a proven track record of leadership to the role, serving as vice president and general manager of the firm’s California Region since joining the firm in 2020. In this role, Menon led diverse teams to deliver complex solutions for clients in the aviation, environmental, energy, industrial, municipal and technology consulting markets. She led a team of more than 300 professionals across California designing and building critical infrastructure strengthening hundreds of communities.
“Burns & McDonnell’s greatest strength has always been its people,” Menon says. “I am honored to step into this role and partner with teams across the globe who are dedicated to helping our employee-owners thrive. Together, we will continue helping our employee-owners feel empowered to do high-quality work while delivering exceptional results for our clients and communities.”
Menon has served as executive sponsor of the firm’s national Asian and Pacific Islanders Employee Resource Group. Beyond the workplace, she serves on the board of directors for the California Chamber of Commerce and as a member of its Executive Committee. She has also held leadership positions with the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce, Valley Industry & Commerce Association and Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. Through her leadership, the firm’s California team has raised nearly $320,000 for charitable organizations supporting education, health care, workforce development and community advancement initiatives.
Menon holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a master’s degree in construction management. She brings more than 25 years of experience leading large-scale infrastructure and capital improvement programs across North America.
Menon will begin transitioning into her new role this summer while supporting leadership continuity for the California Region, where Pablo Lorenzo will succeed Menon as general manager. Lorenzo, a vice president, has assumed increasing leadership responsibilities since joining the firm in 2018.
