SAN DIEGO — Burns & McDonnell, a 100% employee-owned engineering, architecture and construction firm, has named Robert Fletcher regional manager of its Environmental team in California.

Robert Fletcher, Burns & McDonnell

In this role, Fletcher will lead regional environmental operations, focusing on team development, client relationships and expanding the firm's environmental services across California. He will work with investor-owned utilities, municipalities and other infrastructure clients to support environmental planning, permitting and regulatory compliance. Working alongside engineering and construction teams, Fletcher will help clients identify environmental constraints early, navigate complex approval processes and address environmental requirements throughout project delivery.

“Environmental planning and permitting play a critical role in moving infrastructure projects forward across California,” says Pablo Lorenzo, vice president and general manager of California for Burns & McDonnell. “Robert’s leadership will help us expand our environmental services, strengthen relationships with utility and municipal clients, and better connect environmental planning with engineering and construction.”

Fletcher brings two decades of experience in the environmental, energy and utility sectors. His background includes managing large utility programs, leading technology initiatives to improve efficiency and mentoring multidisciplinary teams.

Fletcher will draw on that experience to help clients navigate complex environmental requirements and advance infrastructure projects. By bringing environmental professionals into early planning discussions, his team will help identify constraints, develop permitting strategies, inform design decisions and support regulatory compliance as projects advance through engineering and construction.

“Bringing environmental considerations into projects early helps clients make informed decisions and navigate complex requirements,” Fletcher says. “I look forward to working alongside our California team, developing our people and helping clients find practical solutions to complex infrastructure challenges.”

The Burns & McDonnell team in California is consistently ranked among the region’s top design and construction firms by Engineering News-Record. It has also been recognized among the Best Places to Work by the Los Angeles Business Journal, San Diego Business Journal and Orange County Business Journal. As the firm expands, it is actively hiring to support continued growth across the region.
