KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Oct. 30, 2017) — Burns & McDonnell has remained as the nation’s third largest commissioning services firm on the 2017 MEP Commissioning Giants survey conducted annually by Consulting-Specifying Engineer (CSE) magazine. Burns & McDonnell reported commissioning revenue of $25.1 million in revenue derived from commissioning services, up from $21.5 million the prior year.
Burns & McDonnell has long provided commissioning services with growth accelerating in recent years. Since 2012, the firm has expanded from two to 14 offices around the country with plans to expand staff to international offices in 2018. Burns & McDonnell today employs 129 commissioning professionals, including 35 individual Cx certifications and now has achieved formal designation as a Certified Commissioning firm by the Building Commissioning Association.

Commissioning is increasingly recognized as a critical step in the programming, design and construction of highly complex facilities because of the potential of reducing maintenance and operating costs, extending lifetimes of systems and equipment and ensuring comfortable and productive environments for building occupants. Commissioning professionals are now commonly engaged during early-phase project design as a strategy to better manage project budgets and reduce project risk. Services include MEP coordination and startup management, facility condition assessment, energy model verification, energy audits, measurement and verification and building enclosure commissioning.
