We are providing engineer-procure-construct (EPC) services for a key transmission project supporting growing customer load in South Carolina, including a new data center in Aiken County. The project for owner Santee Cooper includes building a new substation, expanding an existing substation, adding two 230-kV transmission lines, and rebuilding a 115-kV transmission line.
The new 230-kV substation will be connected to the existing substation Aiken No. 3 with the two 230-kV transmission lines. The 16 miles of 115-kV lines being rebuilt connect Aiken No. 1 and Briggs Road and Aiken No. 1 and Aiken No. 3 substations.
Our team is executing the project in two phases.
Phase 1 focused on determining and detailing scope, cost and schedule, allowing engineering work to proceed while finalizing the project scope and pricing. Long-lead equipment procurement and subcontract negotiations occurred during this phase, enabling swift contract buyouts in Phase 2. The main objective was to establish a solid project scope and prepare engineering packages for pricing materials, equipment and construction contracts.
Phase 2 includes a detailed proposal, including a comprehensive schedule, execution plan, and pricing for materials, construction and close-out activities. The bid selection process for procurement was a collaborative effort between our team and Santee Cooper.
Construction began in August 2024 and is expected to be complete in late 2025.
