HOUSTON — Great Place to Work has honored Burns & McDonnell as one of the 2021 Great Place to Work’s Best Workplaces in Texas. The recognition signifies the 100% employee-owned firm’s first time to secure a spot on the prestigious list.
The Best Workplaces in Texas award is based on analysis of survey responses from more than 73,000 current employees across Texas. Great Place to Work, the global authority on workplace culture, selected the list using rigorous analytics and confidential employee feedback. Companies were only considered if they are a Great Place to Work-Certified organization.
“We are so grateful for our dedicated employees who have made us a part of this list for the first time in our nearly 125-year history,” says Leslie Duke, president and general manager of Burns & McDonnell offices in the Houston region. “Our people make working at Burns & McDonnell a truly special experience every day. We celebrate and thank them for all they do to earn this incredible honor.”
Burns & McDonnell has a team of nearly 1,000 diverse professionals based in Texas, all focused on providing a wide range of engineering, construction, procurement and architecture services. The firm’s Texas team serves clients in the aviation, electrical delivery, gas delivery, power generation, manufacturing, federal, mission-critical, facility, commercial, healthcare, transportation, water and environmental sectors.
“Our business is built on relationships with our clients and each other,” says Scott Clark, vice president and general manager of Burns & McDonnell offices in Dallas-Fort Worth. “Mentoring, listening, learning, teaching, creating friendships, innovation and teamwork are all characteristics of great relationships and will continue to guide how we do business and achieve our mission of making our clients successful.”
Great Place to Work is the only company culture award in America that selects winners based on how fairly employees are treated. Companies are assessed on how well they are creating a great employee experience that transcends race, gender, age, disability status or any aspect of who employees are or what their role is.
“Congratulations to the Best Workplaces in Texas,” says Sarah Lewis-Kulin, vice president of global recognition at Great Place to Work. “These companies stand out because they are built on foundations of trust. Their leaders can expect excellent business results because their great employee experience is one of the best in the state. And not just for the C-suite, but for every demographic and every level of the organization.”
In 2020, Burns & McDonnell also ranked as a Best Workplace in Chicago and was ranked No. 14 on the list of Best Workplaces in Consulting and Professional Services. Additionally, the firm was named to People magazine’s 50 Companies that Care list for succeeding in business while concurrently demonstrating outstanding respect, care and concern for their employees, communities and the environment throughout the coronavirus pandemic. Burns & McDonnell is recognized as a best place to work by the Houston Chronicle, Texas Monthly, FW Inc. magazine and more than 35 additional publications across the U.S.
