Efficiency, technological advancement and flexibility are essential in the manufacturing of durable goods. We design and build facilities and infrastructure for the manufacturing and distribution of durable goods such as electronics, electrical and industrial goods, building products, machinery and equipment, as well as renewable energy components like offshore and onshore wind towers.
We use industry-leading lean services to aid in process designs, space layouts, material handling and overall equipment effectiveness. From pre-capital consulting and site selection to build-out and startup, we are a fully integrated, single-source, design-build partner that can pursue aggressive schedules with cost certainty. Our team has experience working with major manufacturers on new factory construction, renovations and process optimization improvements.
Acting as an extension of your staff, our multidisciplinary team can provide complete lean, design, procurement and construction services that support heavy to light industrial work and all associated systems, from material fabrication and wastewater treatment to electrical power generation or grid interconnection. For ongoing operations, we can provide owner’s engineer services for corporate projects as well as facility support for the retrofitting of plant utility systems and the coordination of plant outages and repairs.
We help maximize operations through automation and robotics, using simplified control systems, applying Lean Six Sigma DMADV (define, measure, analyze, design and verify) principles, and incorporating other best practices to help your operation drive costs down and boost performance. We also assist owners in increasing energy efficiency through various methods, such as eliminating steam systems, optimizing HVAC and designing modular plants.
As technology creates efficiencies for factory renovations and new construction, the durable goods market has opportunities to save time and money. By applying process optimization to production lines, we help make the most of durable goods’ manufacturing, warehousing and distribution spaces.
Creating Advanced Durable Goods Facilities
Our experience extends to designing, building and retrofitting facilities to optimize the production of durable goods. Some of our experience with durable goods manufacturing processes include chemical and mechanical cleaning, plating, anodizing, electropolishing, and thermal spray. Our paint and coating projects have included the use of paint booths, paint booth recirculation, grit blast booths, blast recovery and dust collection. We also work with custom booth solutions, including energy recovery systems and programmable booth modes, which modify airflow and temperature to improve performance.
Material handling projects we have managed include: air carts, monorail, bridge cranes, movable workstations, assembly lines and transfer lines. With every project, our procurement and construction team will see to it that your facility has minimum downtime. Our team can work within operating facilities and expedite purchasing to get your processes running as soon as possible. Our specialized projects include furnaces, clean rooms, dip lines, corrosive environment, deep foundations/pits, and vibrational/spinning mass equipment installation and more.
Case Study
Sustainable Byproduct Reuse
Burns & McDonnell
For TruStile Doors, finding a more beneficial use for more than 7,200 tons of sawdust byproduct created each year through manufacturing meant integrating a solution into design of its new facility — effectively reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 37,000 tons per year.

Scoping Out Solutions for Supply Chain and Labor Challenges
Burns & McDonnell
Sometimes challenges contain the seeds of their own solutions. Bogged-down supply chains and persistent shortages of skilled labor are familiar complications throughout many industries, but efforts to address them are also driving more efficiencies in project planning and execution.
