Career Development and Exploration Center
The Career Development and Exploration Center (CDEC), in North Kansas City, Missouri, and is a partnership between Burns & McDonnell and The Builders, a Chapter of the Associated General Contractors. The facility has a dual mission: to train early-career Burns & McDonnell professionals with hands-on, interactive experiences in a safe environment, and to encourage young men and women across the Kansas City metro to enter the construction skilled trades. A major focus of the 3,300-square-foot CDEC is construction safety, with exhibits on industry history, PPE, fall protection and energy isolation measures. One of the highlights of the space is an 8-by-32-foot industrial training module, fabricated by AZCO, (a Burns & McDonnell company), which features common structural, electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical and process components that help mimic real-life jobsite scenarios.
Construction Academy
Our Construction Academy, in Houston, Texas, addresses the industry’s need for skilled craft workers. Through this program, we offer recruitment, hands-on training and skills assessments to prepare our workforce for top safety and performance, no matter where they are in their career. To deploy highly skilled craft on jobsites that are hard-hat ready, we use skills assessments that allow the company to evaluate the capabilities of our candidates and tailor development programs to address specific gaps and needs. The academy features a 14,000-square-foot facility for training. Mobile units and online platforms extend our training programs to various locations around the country, enabling comprehensive on-the-job training for apprentices and specialized training when needed.
