Sewer Separation

Cities with older combined sanitary and stormwater sewer systems seek to avoid the combined sewer overflows (CSOs) that come with heavy rains. As they update their networks and go beyond the wastewater treatment processes applied during normal weather periods, many face mandated consent decrees from the Environmental Protection Agency.

We’ve worked with the largest CSO programs in the Midwest, including Omaha, Nebraska; St. Louis, Missouri; Kansas City, Kansas; St. Joseph, Missouri; and Kansas City, Missouri. We help evaluate design and construction plans with an eye on phased implementation, supporting decisions about timing and budget that affect the broader system.

Sewer separation projects are major municipal challenges. Our team can help your city through every phase with public outreach, thoroughly vetted designs and phased construction plans.
